He
is the fourth of four children and Gregory C. Emmanuel's Godfather.
Nikos attended
primary school at Lambo, Tanganyika. He was taken
by his mother to Athens, Greece, with his siblings to attend the Athens
College (1933). After the Occupation he returned
to Tanganyika with his mother and brothers (1945). General Manager
Nakuru coffee estate in Moshi, and partner in Tongoni and Lewa sisal estates in Tanga,
Tanganyika. An avid fisherman and mountaineer he has climbed Mt.
Kilimanjaro a number of times from many different routes and has
participated in numerous Search and Rescue operations on the mountain.
For many years
he was president of the Kilimanjaro Mountain Club. Involved in
unsuccessful shipping company with his brothers and other partners
(1964). After loosing his farm (nationalization of Nakuru, 1972), he farmed beans at Sanya Plains with his brother
Costas (1973-74). Nikos remained in Tanzania, renting his own home to
live in from the cooperative union that took over his farm. After
leasing various other properties over the years he was able to secure a
long-term lease for part of his former farm. He now operates the most
successful of the few surviving coffee estates in the Kilimanjaro region
and maintains a house on the Tanzania coast, at Pangani. Nikos also owns a fully
developed olive farm on the Island of Naxos and frequently travels to
England and Greece.
